what to bring to your session (so you feel prepared and natural)

Woohoo! You’ve booked a session—now comes the fun part: planning how to make the most of our time together.

If you’re anything like me, you might be an over-packer, an over-planner… or both. To help you feel calm, confident, and fully present, I’ve put together a thoughtful list of things you may want to bring along. The goal? Peace of mind—so you can show up as the most natural, relaxed version of yourself.

1. Outfit Changes (If You Want Them!)

First things first—decide if you’d like to do an outfit change.

The time it takes to change outfits is included in the session time you booked, so keep that in mind when planning. I don’t carry a changing tent, so your location matters here—some spots are more private than others.

For an hour session, I recommend no more than one outfit change. This keeps things flowing and allows plenty of time to capture genuine moments without feeling rushed.

2. Touch-Up Essentials

Especially if you’re changing outfits—or shooting in Texas heat—it’s helpful to bring a few small items:

  • Hairbrush or comb
  • Lip color or gloss
  • Blotting papers or powder
  • Bobby pins or hair ties

Doing a summer graduation session in the middle of Texas heat? Totally get it. A small towel or blotting paper to wipe sweat and a bit of powder can help calm the shine… or maybe that’s just your natural glow ( I'll call it that! ).

3. Little Helpers for Kids & Pets

If this is a family session with a toddler—or you’re bringing along a furry friend—extra support goes a long way.

  • For little ones: snacks, treats, or a favorite toy
  • For pets: treats, a leash, and a little patience

I always recommend bringing a grandparent or trusted friend if possible—someone who can help distract, assist, or step in when needed. Family sessions are best when they feel like an extension of a playdate rather than a formal photoshoot.

4. Meaningful Props (Optional, but Fun)

You’ll receive a full gallery with plenty of images, and props are a great way to add variety and personality.

Graduation Sessions
Think about the activities and moments that shaped your experience:

  • Medals, cords, or honor society items
  • Musical instruments (yes, I’ve photographed a saxophone—and it was magic)
  • Letterman jackets, college tees, acceptance letters
  • Sports gear: soccer balls, cleats, basketball shoes (just maybe spray the shoes with air freshener first—haha)

Even if you don’t plan to wear your cap and gown the entire time, we’ll absolutely use them—draped over your shoulder, held in hand, and of course, a cap-throw moment is a must.

5. Comfortable Shoes

If we’re walking between locations—college campuses, downtown streets, parks—do your feet a favor and bring a comfortable pair of shoes to switch into between photo moments. Your heels can make their appearance when it’s time, but no blisters necessary.

6. Water (Don't Make Nurse Me Come Out )

Especially during warmer months—hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. I know you don’t want to mess up your lipstick, but staying hydrated keeps you feeling good, energized, and glowing. I promise it’s worth it.

7. Special Items for Announcements

If we’re photographing a pregnancy announcement or gender reveal, feel free to bring:

  • Sonogram photos
  • Baby clothes or booties
  • Blankets or heirloom items
  • A cake (for a sweet, celebratory moment—or a subtle reveal)
  • Anything meaningful that represents your growing family

These little details help tell your story in a way that feels personal and heartfelt.

Or… Bring Nothing at All

And if you’re a true Type B client—don’t stress it. Bring nothing at all.

We can document you exactly as you are: glistening sweat, messy hair, tired feet, big laughs, and all. Sometimes the most honest images come from showing up just as you are, without props or planning.

At the end of the day, this session is about you—your story, your season, your life right now. I’ll take care of the rest!
